A note to the keepers
Write whatever you’d like to ask.
We reply within one working day — often within the hour during weekday afternoons. The boathouse phone rings to Iris’s desk, and she reads every message before it goes anywhere else.
The rhythm of the week

What to expect
A handwritten reply when the post is delivered, an emailed answer within a working day, or a telephone call back if the matter is urgent. Nothing forwarded, nothing automated.
Passing through?
The footpath along the south shore is open to walkers year-round. Please keep to the marked path and away from the jetty when sessions are running.

Arrival notes
The last three miles are unpaved.
Satnavs tend to give up at the old quarry. Park there if unsure — we will happily walk down.
Northbank Lake
By car
Forty minutes from Penrith via the A6. From the M6 junction 40, follow signs to Eden Valley. The final turning is easy to miss — a weathered wooden sign reading Northbank.
By train
Penrith is the nearest mainline station (Avanti West Coast). We are happy to collect guests by arrangement — please give us two days’ notice.
On foot
Long-distance walkers on the Lakeland Ring pass within half a mile. Drop us a line if you’d like to stop in for tea.
